JAMIE ROONEY

Managing Director - Alternative Investments

Jamie joined Freestone in 2008 to lead the firm’s alternative investments efforts. Prior to joining Freestone, Jamie was an investment banker with CIBC World Markets in New York where he advised clients on a broad range of assignments including sell and buy-side advisory, equity offerings and strategic advisory assignments. Previously Jamie worked in the global corporate development group at Reuters Group plc in London making strategic acquisitions and working with portfolio companies in the US, UK, France and Spain, and where he served on the Board of Directors of numerous companies. Jamie began his career as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers in New York. He received an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business, and he graduated magna cum laude from Washington University with a BA degree in economics and history.

GARY SMART, CFA

Managing Director - Portfolio Management

Gary Smart began his investment career as a research analyst and portfolio manager at First Interstate Bank (now Wells Fargo). There he helped manage the bank's trust and mutual funds and provided management services to high net worth clients. He joined Salomon Smith Barney to assist Gary Furukawa in managing his rapidly growing investment management business, and joined Mr. Furukawa again as a cofounder of Freestone. Gary holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA) and has an MBA from the University of Washington. He spends his spare time with his wife and five children and is actively involved in coaching youth sports and in the Boy Scouts of America.

NICK CICERO, CAIA

Sr. Portfolio Manager - Alternative Investments

Nick Cicero started his career as the youngest member of the American Stock Exchange, where he traded equity derivatives for nearly a decade on a variety of listed and over-the-counter securities. Prior to joining Freestone, Nick functioned as a consultant to an author of Alternative Investment texts, contributing most recently to Quantitative Trading Strategies by Lars N. Kestner. Nick holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation, and has a BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Nick spends his free time traveling and enjoying life with his wife and children.

KEN MIYOSHI, CAIA

Sr. Portfolio Manager - Alternative Investments

Ken Miyoshi brings a global perspective to Freestone. He previously worked for Van Hedge Fund Advisors where he managed a fund of hedge funds for European institutional investors. He has served in consulting roles, both domestically and internationally, for organizations such as Ford Financial, Mazda, and PwC Consulting. Ken holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation, and has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia, an MA from Sheffield University, and an MBA from Vanderbilt University. He enjoys spending time with his family and staying active in various sports and outdoor activities.

BECKY WILCOX, CFA

Sr. Portfolio Manager

Becky’s professional background reflects a combination of research and client service experience. Becky began her career in investments in Private Client Services and worked for Prudential Securities and Lehman Brothers in that capacity. Directly prior to joining Freestone, Becky was a bond analyst for GE Financial Assurance, where she helped to manage the $7 billion telecom and cable/media portion of the investment portfolio. Becky holds a BA from McGill University, an MBA from University of Washington and also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA). As an east coast transplant to Seattle, Becky avidly enjoys just about everything that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. She especially loves sailing and snowboarding with her family.

MEGHAN LOSK

Director - Alternative Investments, Operations

Meghan joined Freestone in 2003 following a number of years with a Seattle-based financial planning group. She began her Freestone career as part of our client advisory group and in 2005 transitioned to our Alternative Investment Team. Currently, Meghan serves as Director of Alternative Investment Operations and is primarily responsible for fund operations and compliance as well as investor relations. Meghan earned her degree from the University of Portland and is currently pursuing the Investment Advisor Certified Compliance Professional (IACCPsm) designation. She is a lifetime member of Financial Women International, a member of 100 Women in Hedge Funds and currently serves as the Lead Event Coordinator for the Seattle Alternative Investment Association. Outside of Freestone, she enjoys a variety of outdoor activities with her husband, volunteering in the community, and cheering on her favorite sports teams.

JUSTIN YOUNG, CAIA

Director - Alternative Investments, Risk Management

Justin began his career as an auditor with PricewaterhouseCoopers working almost exclusively in its financial services practice in the San Francisco and Seattle offices. During his tenure as a CPA at PricewaterhouseCoopers, he serviced a broad range of clients including hedge funds, venture capital funds, mutual funds, broker-dealers, investment banks and registered investment advisors. Justin holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation. He is a Magna Cum Laude graduate from the University of Notre Dame where earned a BBA in Accounting and Japanese. Justin spends his leisure time with his new son, participating in various sports and outdoor activities, and traveling when possible.

NENAD YASHRUTI

Director - Trading & Operations

Nenad Yashruti has been trading securities for over a decade. Prior to joining Freestone, Nenad was the Head of Trading and Trading Compliance for a Seattle-based brokerage firm with over 350 retail and institutional brokers. Nenad has been profiled and a featured author in numerous industry publications and served on expert panels at industry conferences and trade seminars nationwide. Nenad studied business and finance at Washington State University and has been an executive board member of the Seattle Security Traders association since 2003. Nenad enjoys traveling abroad and taking weekend trips with his family around the Pacific Northwest.

JASON MANN, CAIA

Senior Analyst

Jason began his career with Freestone in early 2005 as an analyst with Freestone’s Alternative Investments group. Using his knowledge of alternative investment strategies, Jason has provided analytical support and generated investment ideas for Freestone Opportunity Partners and the Core Equity groups since 2007. Jason holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation, has a B.S. in Economics and Psychology from the University of Washington, and a Master of Financial Economics degree from the University of Toronto. He enjoys spending his free time with friends and family, traveling, and surfing.

JEFFREY WILSON, CFA

Senior Analyst

Jeff joined Freestone in 2007, contributing additional due diligence capabilities to our investment process. Jeff has parlayed his experience with individual security analysis to assist in the management of Freestone’s independent asset manager platform. Prior to joining Freestone, Jeff was a research analyst at ICM Asset Management, a small-cap value investment firm managing over $1.2 billion at that time. Jeff graduated from Gonzaga University with a BA in Business Administration, with concentrations in accounting and finance, and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA). Jeff enjoys an active lifestyle filled with sports, traveling, and competition of all sorts.
