Managing Director - Business Development - Seattle, WA

Freestone is searching for qualified candidates to join our Team as a Managing Director – Business Development in Seattle, WA.  Successful candidates for this position will have a demonstrated track record of both educational and professional achievement, along with a passion and history for driving material business growth across a broad spectrum of growth channels.

Job Responsibilities


  • Work with the Management Team to articulate and evangelize Freestone’s vision and mission.

  • Build out a long-term strategy for sales – Process, Team Structure, Compensation, Objectives, etc.

  • Work with Management Team to refine short-term and long-term strategies to achieve growth targets (Go to market strategy, direct lead generation, prospect tracking & oversight, sales process, onboarding, financial planning, and service model).

  • Internally sell growth-focused initiatives throughout all markets and areas of the firm

  • Work with the COO and CFO to develop effective business metrics and reporting techniques to measure growth and manage related business development budgets.   

  • Communicate key growth and financial results at company meetings as needed

Sales & Business Development:

  • Oversee all aspects of the firm’s sales strategy and execution

  • Direct responsibility for all business development initiatives and resources.

  • Direct responsibility for all Emerging Advisors, including the development of individual and territory-specific business development plans

  • Schwab Advisor Network:  

    • Develop deep relationships with all leadership contacts (Branch Managers, Regional Support, National Leadership) to ensure relationships are running smoothly, Freestone’s differentiators are well-understood throughout the organization, and a consistent flow of new leads are generated.

    • Manage and change territory assignments to ensure continuous, connected coverage

    • Run internal quarterly SAN performance review meeting

    • Identify growth opportunities within SAN while closely adhering to Schwab guidelines

    • Manage and further develop processes for delivering financial planning and other services toward entrenching our relationship

  • Non-Schwab Channel Partners

    • Develop relationships with designated non-Schwab Channel Partners

    • Identify and develop new Channel Partner relationships in all core Freestone territories

    • Manage and change relationship assignments to ensure continuous, connected coverage

    • Run quarterly channel partner performance review meeting

  • Establish a referral culture throughout Freestone and its employees, including the creation and tracking of referral-related goals

  • Be active in the community in key areas that will drive additional business, raise Freestone visibility


  • Serve as part of the Marketing Committee to define strategy and approve specific initiatives to increase Freestone’s external brand awareness and generate leads

  • Work with the COO and Marketing Director to develop strategies and tactics to support sales, business development and other firm objectives; develops budgets to measure return on investment of initiatives (campaigns, client events, collateral material, etc.)

  • Review the content and delivery of our messaging to ensure consistency, accuracy, relevancy and impact 

  • Help to manage firm’s content delivery tools – web site, brochures, other deliverables

  • Ensure messaging is understood and consistently articulated company wide

  • Review Freestone events and events schedule to assure that they are having the desired impact across both prospect and client bases


  • Deep experience (10+ years) in the Financial Services industry, preferably in the Wealth Advisor space

  • Previous experience as a Head of Sales/Business Development preferred

  • Familiarity with all aspects of client advisory including investments, financial planning, estate planning, tax planning and insurance planning 

  • Experience driving and managing organizational change

  • Expertise building and managing groups that deliver growth

  • Proven record of earning and maintaining respect across business units and with colleagues at all levels
