Freestone volunteers with Ronald McDonald House Charities

Posted on

As part of the “Five Fridays,” volunteer program, employees spent an evening at the Ronald McDonald House, an organization dedicated to creating a “home away from home” for children receiving care at Seattle Children’s Hospital and their families.

The Ronald McDonald House in Seattle provides over 28,000 nights of housing a year to families with children receiving treatment at Seattle Children’s Hospital. One way volunteers can donate their time is to participate in the Family Meal Program by preparing a meal at the House.

Our group of volunteers put on their aprons to prepare, cook, and serve the families staying at the House. The team worked together to serve cornbread, chili, salad and ice cream sundaes to the families. One volunteer explains her experience: “It was heart-warming to serve each family and watch them enjoy a warm cooked meal and bring delight to the children’s faces by offering colorful sprinkles and candy to doctor up their ice cream sundaes!” Our volunteers were grateful for the experience to help these families in time of need.
