Riley directs his clients’ public and private market investing, with a focus on managing concentrated stock positions, tax-efficient divesting, 10b5-1, plus philanthropic, estate and tax planning strategies. Riley often manages wealth for families across generations. Prior to Freestone, Riley held senior roles at Scharf Investments LLC, where he led investment management and wealth planning services. Riley’s career began at Merrill Lynch 16 years ago, providing trading, distribution, and custody services.
Education
Riley earned a BS in Economics from the University of Oregon with a minor in Business Administration and concentration in Finance. He is a CFP® practitioner.
Outside Freestone
Riley lives in San Jose with his wife, daughter, and golden retriever. He is an active member of the Financial Planning Association of San Francisco and Rotary Club of Los Gatos, where he currently serves on the board of directors with a focus on youth services. Most recently, he served as the chair of the investment committee for the charity and scholarship funds.
