George currently serves as our General Counsel having joined Freestone in 2022. Prior to Freestone, George served as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at The Voleon Group, a quantitative hedge fund. George began his career at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. After Akin Gump, he served as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel in the asset management division of Goldman, Sachs & Co. and then as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of Rockbay Capital Management LP. He then served as Head of Legal and Chief Compliance Officer at GLG Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of GLG Partners LP, a London-based hedge fund management firm. After GLG, he served as a Senior Vice President and a member of the Legal department at D. E. Shaw & Co., LP, where he headed the product development function.
Education
George earned his JD from New York University School of Law, and he holds a BA from Wesleyan University. He is admitted to the bar in New York State.
Outside Freestone
In his spare time, George enjoys hiking in the Berkeley hills with his family and their rescue dog. He also enjoys skiing and mountain biking. George has volunteered as pro bono counsel for several years with Charity Navigator, which evaluates charitable organizations across the United States.
